'70s Platforms

It's very awkward trying to take pictures of your shoes while wearing them

I wore a pair of 1970s platform shoes a couple of posts ago and Vix wanted to have a closer look at them, so here they are.

I love the little peepholes on the front

I bought them from Etsy and they were my first pair of '70s platforms. I have a small collection now (if three can really be counted as a collection).

I wear the cream ones the most. They are surprisingly comfortable. The red ones are really high (even though they don't look it in the photo), and I'm slightly afraid that I'm going to do a Naomi Campbell and fall on my arse. I was actually wearing the black and white ones when we had a 5.5 magnitude earthquake and I didn't fall over so I guess they're not too high.

  1. Those white shoes are awesome! I wish I could find some cool vintage shoes but I have big feet so I can never find them in my size.

    1. Thanks! Yeah, it can be hard finding bigger sizes with vintage shoes because the average shoe size has gone up three sizes since the 1950s.

  2. They are BEAUTIFUL! And I believe you should have invented a new test of high-heeled-stability... The earthquake test.

    2. Thanks! Passing the 'earthquake test' should definitely be the new criteria for buying a pair of high heels.

  7. I like them all!! The peephole at the front is so cute. I really like the red and white stripey ones. Shame they're a bit impractical. What an op shop find though. I would have them on a shelf in my living room! :) xx

    1. Yes, the peephole makes me smile every time I wear them. I have them on my book shelf and I have a couple of pairs of the most adorable 1940s shoes that don't fit me on a shelf in my sewing room.

  9. Ooh they are all lovely. I think the white ones are my favourite though. I love the lines of them - they remind me of all that fab sixties plastic furniture. So unusual with the peeptoe window too.

    1. Thanks! Yes, I love the curviness of the heel. You can't really see it in the photo but the metal circle around the peephole has little flowers on it too.

  13. A small collection is better than no collection. I think it's really cool that you're wearing 70s platform straight for the 70s (no alterations). I wrote a post yesterday on how fashion is no longer about invention but about recycling. Your shoes are more proof that what I suspected is true.

    1. Thanks! You're right. It's kind of funny that recently 70s style platforms have become trendy again so people are wearing modern shoes that are similar to mine.

Have you got teeny feet 'cos I find that nearly all the original platforms I come across are titchy? x

    1. You're welcome! Yeah, my feet are quite small; size 5, which I think is a UK size 3? I'm pretty lucky because lots of vintage shoes fit me.

  15. Those shirt are bloody brilliant! I wore a similar pair to the red ones when I got married. I considered bell bottoms too but I just didn't have the pins for it!

I wish I had the reply thing on my blog comments, but I can't acquire it no how!
