Recent Acquisitions

And by recent I mean between yesterday and months ago.

I got this vintage dress a couple of months ago on Trademe. The photo on the auction was of the dress lying on the floor so I wasn't sure what it would look like on but I took a chance and I love it. It's way nicer than I was expecting. The colours are a lot more vibrant in person than they look here.

My Mum got me the cocktail hat when she was out op shopping yesterday (I definitely got the op shopping gene from her).

I love the bow on the back. It has little crocheted loops on the inside to stick bobby pins through to keep it on your head.

I also recently got a couple of new (old) bakelite bangles from Dear Valentine on etsy. The new ones are the carved green one on the left and the carved red one fourth from the left. I rationalise buying bakelite because I wear them every day.

On Saturday I went to the Two Squirrels winter sale with Helga, Ayesha and Ayesha's friend Raea. There were lots of people there and lots of goodies.

I managed to nab the floral and a novelty border print fabrics (above), the 60s pattern below and some other things I didn't manage to photograph.

    1. Trademe is quite good sometimes. I know, Mum said she didn't know if I would like it but I love it. Yes, we should do cocktail hats for cocktails.

    1. Nope! I wasn't sure that it was going to fit even though the auction gave measurements because sometimes it can be tricky to tell but I crossed my fingers and when it arrived it did fit.

    1. Thanks. It was Mum that got me into vintage and op shopping originally. She loves old stuff and has been op shopping since she was 14.

  5. What a beautiful frock. The cut looks lovely on you. It's always a bit of a gamble buying frocks online, but I have success more often then not. Super cute hat too. How I wish I could have popped over the Ditch for that Two Squirrels sale. Xx

    1. Thanks. Yes, I have bought some duds online before but I mostly have success too. I wish you could've come over for the sale too. It would've been so fun.

  7. Wow! That frock is beautiful on you. I love it when you buy something on Trade me and it totally exceeds your expectation. Your mum bought you the cutest hat EVER - I love it. Now I have to admit I'm feeling a wee bit jealous, I want to go to the two squirrels sale next time!

    1. Thanks! Me too. Yes she did, she knows my taste so well. I don't blame you feeling a bit jealous. Two Squirrels sales are great and Vanessa and Warren are so lovely.

  9. I requently buy things on ebay that aren't displayed to their best advantage knowing that it often puts other people off bidding. Lovely dress, you grabbed a real beaut there!

    1. I love doing that too. I'm a bit amazed at the awesome things people are put off bidding for because they're not photgraphed well. Thanks!

  11. What a pretty frock and it fits you perfectly, too. Those bangles are gorgeous.
I'm so jealous of you and Helga having a rummage through the lovely Miss V's sale stock. That fabric is insane (in a good way!) x

  13. Those bakelite bangles are so pretty! What a great find. I have a hard time with bracelets--they mostly get in my way or fall off. But I admire them on others. :)

    1. Thanks! It took me a while to get used to wearing bangles because I don't usually wear any jewellery. I take them off when I'm doing certain things because they do get in the way.

  14. Your new dress is gorgeous! I wish I could buy some new vintage dresses. Unfortunately everything I like is not conducive to the baby bump. Oh well! I'll save my money for a shopping spree afterwards.

    1. Thanks! Yes, think of all the money you'll save not buying any vintage dresses until the baby's born and then you can go and splurge on some.

  15. I went through this whole post and after every photo went, "oh, this is the thing I'll point out especially in my comment!" So, uh, I especially like all of those things! The hat, though, is what I think I have to settle on. Great! Great hat! And way to actually wear it out and about!

    1. Ha yes I know that feeling. The hat is great. My Mum is awesome getting it for me. I have decided that I'm just going to wear my hats because I have quite a few but I never really know when to wear them.

Thank you so much for finding treasure at the sale.
I so can't wait to see what you make with the fabric.

  17. Haha I think I saw that dress on Trademe a couple of months ago? The photo was taken against a wooden floor? I remember it being ludicrously expensive so I hope you got it for a good price!

I am jealous of your awesome hat too, and your Squirrels find. Gutted I missed that sale!

    1. Yep, that's it. I saw it about 6 months ago on Trademe but I didn't buy it because like you said it was expensive then I saw it again months later and they'd lowered the price by $40 so I bought it.
The hat is awesome and Mum only paid $4 for it. I should lie and tell you the sale wasn't that great so you don't feel too jealous but it was so good. Sorry you missed it.

    1. Yes, the colours of bakelite are amazing. I don't know if the shop has any more in stock but if you search etsy for bakelite bangles a heap of them will come up.
