Even though I don't like pink, cream doesn't suit me and boats make me seasick, I still bought this cotton print and made a dress out of it. I drafted the bodice from a few different patterns because I didn't have the exact one that I wanted. The skirt is just a circle skirt.

I also took the scissors to my hair. I'm not convinced that I like it but it's my own fault and it'll grow back.

Brilliant! I love that cute little print. I think your hair looks great. I'm at a hair crossroads right now. To cut or not to cut?
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. x
Thanks! I have those dilemmas too. On the one hand I like being able to tie my hair up but on the other, it starts to annoy me when it gets too long. You have a great weekend too.
DeleteWhat a pretty print. I'm not a pink person, & cream is a big no no on me, but I really like this on you. Gorgeous style too. I find some colourful beads & a cardigan often make all the difference. I love your shorter hair, & the colour looks fab too. In that first photo I though you were wearing some kind of hat for a minute! Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, I think it looks way better with a cardigan in a darker shade. Thanks. I thought I may as well go the whole hog and dye it as well as cutting it.
DeleteI feel the same as you about pale pastel pinks and cream - not really for me, but that print is just gorgeous, and the dress looks beautiful on you. Light colours are a bugger to photograph, aren't they? But you look delightful, love the beading on the cardigan, and I was just thinking how pretty your hair looked!
ReplyDelete(I was also thinking how perfect the little green 50s jacket I just bought would be with your dress - did you see it? Have you got anything similar? Bet you could make one!) xxxxx
Thanks. Yep, they are hard to photograph. Thanks. I don't have a jacket in that shade of green but I have a cardigan in a similar colour. I'll have to wear it with the dress and see what it looks like.
DeleteI don't wear them myself but those delicate colours do look lovely on you! The dress is stunning and the print is quirky and cute. I'm with Curtise, a green jacket would play up the darker colours in the dress. I love your hair! x
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll have to try it with a dark green cardigan I've got and see what it looks like.
DeleteI really love your dress! The cardi balances it nicely. I think you are being too hard on yourself. Actually, you've now given me the courage to go ahead and make a summer dress out of some light colored fabric (ok, a very unique vintage bedsheet) that I've been saving.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, the cardi definitely makes it look better. I'm glad that you're going to make your summer dress. Vintage sheets often have great prints so I'm sure it will be fab.
DeleteLove that fabric. I think the addition of opaque tights with lighter colours always does the trick. I agree with Curtise that they are hard to photograph. They always seem to get blanched by the light, but the dress is lovely nevertheless xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, tights are good like that. Yeah, the combination of cream fabric, pale skin and sunlight makes taking photos hard.
DeleteThe dress is lovely! The print is cute too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mariela!
DeleteWhat an amazing collection of dresses you have. The garden behind you is gorgeous, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I can't take credit for the garden, it's my mum's.
DeleteYou look fabulous. I love the dress - very clever! I get what you mean about the cream but I like how your skin tone blends into the dress like you're part of it and it really works with your black hair - looks interesting and artsy.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I dyed my hair black again pretty much so I could wear this dress. I can wear more colours when I have black hair.
DeleteThe print is lovely and I know what you mean about photographing light colours. I always love your dresses. I agree with Curtise about a green jacket or cardigan. Are those Dahlias behind you - they look fabulous. Hope you have alovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'll have to try my green cardigan with it. Yes, they are dahlias. My mum grew them.
DeleteLove this print! I am unable to wear cream without looking as if I have recently died but you look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe of anyone who can sew in anything like a straight line so putting together a dress from several different patterns is completely beyond my comprehension! Amazing!

Cream makes me look a bit corpse-like too but it's hard to tell in these photos. It's funny because I am always in awe of people that can crochet or knit because I've tried but I suck at it.
DeleteI love the print and I think it looks great on you! I'm sure I've said this like a million times, but you're such a sewing inspiration to me. Also I think your hair looks fab.
ReplyDeleteThanks Trees! It's so sweet of you to say. I'm getting used to the hair and I think I actually do like it.
DeleteLovely as always! The print is super cute. I love a good novelty print. I need to add more into my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kat! Me too. Novelty prints are the best.
DeleteThat is beautiful, you are talented. Im always hacking my hair, it's the way forward. Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah, it is. I haven't paid for a haircut in a few years because I just hack it myself.
Deletelove love love that fabric. The dress is much to be desired!!
ReplyDeleteMe too. That's why I had to make a dress even though it doesn't suit me.
DeleteI think the colour TOTALLY suits you and contrasts with your lovely dark hair. You always manage to find the best fabrics!!! x
ReplyDeleteHa, like I said above, I dyed my hair again so I could wear the dress. I love having black hair but hate dying it so the dress gave me the motivation.
DeleteIts adorable, but it needed your special acesorizing touch- the loast pic is my fav!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It definitely does look better with accessories.
DeleteSuch a beautiful print!!! I love how you choose such a simple elegant cut to go with a the striking pattern. I think your hair looks great too, it took me a while to get used to my hair being short when I cut it :P
ReplyDeleteWow!! I love that print. This is the second time you've made an amazing dress out of great fabric who's print theme you don't like! Cream looks fine on you, especially as it's part of a print xx
ReplyDeleteYou are ruling cute cotton print dresses right now! Love it.
ReplyDeletecream, pink and little sailing boats look amazing on you! great print. perfect for summertime.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric! I'm heading to NZ in March next year, and if thats a sample of the awesome fabric I can get across the pond i'll be in heaven :)
ReplyDeleteI think it all looks amazing on you...such a pretty print too :) The dress is awesome...well done!! I like your hair, I'm prone to cutting my hair too..yours looks fab!! x
ReplyDeleteoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! what amazing look!
