Schiaparelli Sunglasses: Take Two

So, I made another pair of Schiaparelli inspired sunglasses. I wanted them to look like one of the pairs in my original post that had pink and black roses. I couldn't find any black roses so I did pink and white. I like them, but I regret using the bright pink a little bit since I don't really wear pink, and most of my clothes don't go with them.

The dress is another thing I kind of regret. I made it a few years ago when I was just starting to sew vintage patterns. I love the fabric but don't like the drop waist. I don't know what I was thinking. I was probably seduced by the pretty 1950s pattern envelope and didn't think about the fact that drop waists remind me of the '80s. I'm making myself wear it because it seems like a waste of time and nice fabric if I don't.

Dress: I made it
Shoes: Hunters and Collectors
Tights: Farmers
Belt: Off another dress
Sunglasses: Trademe (roses added by me)

  1. Love the fabric! Can you just shorten the bodice or will it make the dress too short?

    1. Yeah, the fabric is great. I think that might make it too short because I'd need to take it up quite a bit for it to sit at my waist.

  2. You're getting pretty flash now, and I expect you'll have a dozen pars of these upcycled sunnies before the end of Summer!
The fabric really is gorgeous, and although I don't like a drop waist either, generally, this does look really good on you.Strangely, despite not liking a drop waist, I have 2 frocks with one...it annoys me, but I do like the frocks!

    1. Ha, yeah making them is kind of addictive. Thanks. Yes, strange how we manage to acquire styles that we don't actually like.

  3. I think the hot pink is really appropriate - after all, that was Schiaparelli's colour!

  5. Love those glasses - such a cute DIY. I think that dress looks really good on you, but I know how you feel about drop-waisted dresses, I fell like they make me look huge.

  6. I don't know how you could look anything but darling with the way you style things- I'm not a huge drop-waist gal myself, but I'm envying how you look in this!

  7. Those glasses are fabulous, you are getting good at them.
I rather like a drop waist, the way you've belted it certainly accentuates your fab figure. xxx

    1. Thanks. The belt helps me pretend that it's actually high waisted.

  8. The sunglasses look really pretty.
I know what you mean about dropped waists, but with the addition of the belt, it doesn't really look too dropped waist-y and not at all 80s, and the print is gorgeous. It would be a real shame not to wear it! xxxx

    1. Thanks. Yes, it would be a shame not to wear it, so I'll make myself until I decide that I like it.

    1. I'll try although I probably wont be wearing them indoors because, you know, that's not a good look.

  10. Damn it's winter now but where'd you get the roses? I'd love to give that a go. They look great and the little splash of pink is perfect with that dress so don't regret it

    1. Thanks. Ha, yes, now I'm definitely wiser. I won't be doing another drop waist any time soon.

  13. Those glasses look lovely and I really like that dress. I have a forties dress pattern which has a slight drop waist line and it's the devil to make.

  15. Love the design of the glasses, I would have had the same problem, but they look fab on you and I love this dress!! I used to wear saddle shoes as a kid, I loved them, although kids would make fun of them..I just had more style than they did ;D xx

  16. Your dress is gorgeous. You may not like the drop waist style, but it is very flattering on you. It makes your waist look teeny tiny!
