I am me, I am me, I am me

I got these bright yellow tights for my birthday, and I love them, but I've been struggling with what to wear with them. I've worn them with black and grey clothing but it just didn't feel like me. I think I've finally found something I like them with. Instead of trying to find colours that go with the yellow, I just put on a whole pile of clashing colours, which is way more 'me'. The dress is one I made. Most of the other stuff I'm wearing is second hand. The belt is just some petersham ribbon tied in a bow.

And yeah, the title refers to the Willow Smith song. It's been in my head all week, but that's okay because I think she's pretty awesome. Her song is awesome. Her style is awesome. Her hair is awesome. And her parents are awesome for letting her wear what she wants and cut her hair how she wants.

  1. Ahh I love these colours so much, the stack of your bangles goes perfectly with them. I've been meaning to wear more colourful tights but I never know how to wear them.

Also, Willow is AWESOME. I am such a fan of hers, I wish I'd been that cool at my age. I love the interviews with her parents where they assert her right to do what she wants with her hair/body/self.

    1. Thanks! Same, I love coloured tights but they seem to look wrong with my 50s dresses.

Me too. Hell, I wish I was that cool now. Yeah, I loved the thing Will said about how they let her cut her hair so that she would know when she went out into the world that her body was hers and no one elses.

  2. I love that you so seldom wear black, and especially love the bold outfit above - it is so much more reflective of who you are, if only more people were so brave! You outfit makes me smile :-)

  3. I love yellow. It is such a happy colour. Plus I listened to that Willow's song. She is good, really good. she gets a lot of negativity thrown at her which I think is unfair for one so young. She is a really brave girl, and yes, I credit her parents for that.

    1. I love it too. Right? I was kind of surprised how good she was when I first heard the song. I know, it really annoys me when people criticise her for cutting her hair or the clothing she wears. She's only 11 and she seems like an awesome 11 year old to me.

  4. That outfit really is so you! Should be more of it - I am me etc. My son was about 5 1/2 when he said "Mum I'm different to other kids" and I told him it's ok to be different but sometimes it will be hard because not everyone likes or understands different. Viva la difference!

    1. Thanks. Yeah, it's hard being different sometimes but the world would be so boring if there weren't people like your son who know they're different from everyone else.

  7. My mustard tights are one of my most favourite and you're dead right, wear things that clash rather than matching them up or toning them down, far more interesting.
That dress is a beauty! x

  8. I totally agree you should just wear what you like. Sometimes you can put too much thought into making things match or even the opposite, trying to create a clash when that's whats in fashion or whatever. Generally, bright colours and patterns will look great together. I love this outfit x

    1. Yes, I sometimes overthink what to wear with things and try too hard to match. Thank you.

  10. You look adorable! I have yellow tights but I hardly ever wear them. I find my red ones a lot easier to work into outfits but the yellow ones through me a bit. I love your outfit! It's so colourful and fun.

  17. My own yellow tights covered my legs as I trotted through Paris, Venice, Florence, and Rome a few years ago. I happened to come across a tissue jersey grey and yellow bumblebee-striped scarf - which served as a pretty good counterpoint to the yellow legs. I adore your combination of colors and yes, the stack of bangles repeats the yellow exactly the right amount.

The lovely drape of the green ribbon belt is a nice touch too!

I had just noticed your comment on my Toile La La blog, responding with a quote from Quant by Quant (by Mary Quant) - when I came across your yellow tight post. I think Mary would approve (and perhaps applaud) your spirited refusal of fashion rules!
